Our research group is interested in the immune reconstitution in patients after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Our research interests in detail are:
For many patients with hematological malignancies such as AML allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is the only curative therapeutic. Infections, relapse, and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) are the most important challenges after allogeneic HSCT. These complications are often partly caused by delayed or altered immune reconstitution of the new donor derived immune system.
In our translational projects we analyze possible impairments of the new donor derived immune system using patient samples to correlate in vitro findings with clinical courses. Our aim is to make allogeneic HSCT more safe and effective for our patients.
